Fifteen. Such a tender age. Not. It was my step into the wild. Unafraid, unstoppable, unaware of the real dangers lurking everywhere.
But mostly just the number itself has created a full circle of events in my life…that I hope can continue at least another 15 years. Maybe. Maybe not.
I wrote a poem when I was fifteen. I wrote it because I was pissed off at my dad. I was being “grounded” for whatever reason I know not today. Around fifteen years later I was turning this poem into a song with the art rock band I was in through the late 1980s, the Odd Jobs.
It goes like this:
“Drool your seething words on me
I’m here to destroy your empire
The chain chain chain is clenching
someday it will kill
don’t try and take chances
this ragged soul will
yes it will
eat liberty for breakfast
drink your fascist tea
ain’t no animal prisoner
like the prisoner in me
Fifteen”
The song was never recorded for publication in the 1980s. But it is finally available on an LP I recorded that’s out NOW!!!
The LP is titled “Ghosts” more can be found about it on my website:
